Associate Professor of Human‑Computer Interaction

Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Science, Kansai University, Osaka, Japan
Visiting Scholar, TIDE Research Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona

Profile

I design emotionally intelligent, embodied conversational agents at the intersection of artificial intelligence, affective science and educational psychology. My research concerns how a system recognizes a learner's emotional state and calibrates its response to the situation, including when to withhold intimacy and cheerfulness. Application areas are second-language production support, group discussion, and collaborative knowledge construction. Current work covers LLM-based dialogue agents that facilitate group reasoning, and the design of support that withdraws as learner competence grows.
